Draft update to the shuttle option outlined in the Draft update to the shuttle option outlined in the 2012 Mill Creek Canyon Transportation Feasibility Study is available, and the CWC is accepting public comments now, Thursday, October 2, 2025, through Thursday, October 16, 2025. Link in bio to comment!

In keeping with the goals of the Mountain Accord Charter, the shuttle would help maintain a quality user experience and preserve vegetation and wildlife through a reduction of cars—so that the four systems (environment, transportation, recreation, and economy) identified in the Mountain Accord remain in balance.

The 2012 Mill Creek Canyon Transportation Study identified a shuttle as one potential transit solution for the canyon. This updated study sought to address the Forest Service‘s outstanding questions about the shuttle option: cost and parking locations.

To determine the feasibility of a Mill Creek Canyon Shuttle, these analyses were performed:

- Review of past studies and existing conditions.
- Calculations of parking demand.
- Scoping of possible staging areas for shuttle operation.
- Shuttle operations’ impact on recreation fees.
- Estimation of operation costs and the creation of a shuttle service plan.
See the report draft here: https://cwc.utah.gov/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/Mill-Creek-Shuttle-Feasibility-Study-Report-Sept-2025-DRAFT.pdf

Tickets 30% off through Nov. 5th! Back for the sec Tickets 30% off through Nov. 5th! Back for the second year, the Central Wasatch Commission will host the Central Wasatch Symposium, a conference-style event bringing together various interests and stakeholders in the Central Wasatch for two days of expert panels, interactive workshops, and networking. The Symposium will take place on January 8 and 9, 2026, at Millcreek City Hall.

This year's theme is "Celebrating 10 Years of Mountain Accord." The Accord was signed in July 2015. Since then, the importance of this founding document has grown in tandem with increasing pressures on the mountains. At the Symposium, we will examine the accomplishments of the past 10 years, consider the mountains' changed and changing needs since the signing, and look ahead to the 2034 Olympics and beyond, asking: What’s next for the Central Wasatch?

Link in bio for 30% off early bird tickets! Student tickets are $10. Admission is free to anyone who asks.

Thank you Mayor Jeff Silvestrini for serving as CW Thank you Mayor Jeff Silvestrini for serving as CWC's Chair Commissioner for the last two years and in other capacities on the Board for many years before that. We hope that in your retirement you and Leslie will be able to spend more time in the Central Wasatch---because you've truly made it a better place.

In a reflective and heartfelt message Jeff wrote:

"In September, I had an opportunity to take a vacation with my wife, Leslie, and some close friends. The purpose of our trip was to celebrate my friend and law school classmate Bill’s retirement. Vacations are a time for rest, renewal and reflection, and I particularly did the latter.

As we celebrated Bill’s imminent retirement on our trip, I recalled and reflected upon my own former goal of taking an early retirement with my wife. We postponed that when we decided I would run for mayor and enter public service. My nine-year career as mayor of the city I love has been a happy and gratifying diversion from our earlier goal, which we both worked hard through our careers to be able to realize. However, seeing my friend retire and contemplating my adverse health news, I began to see that my remaining opportunity to enjoy a robust retirement may be much more limited than I imagined. After nearly a decade in this position, I realize it is time for me to do what will make Leslie and me happiest.

Therefore, today, September 23rd, I have tendered my resignation as Millcreek’s mayor, to be effective on November 10, 2025. This allows our council adequate time under state law to advertise the position for the required time, to receive applications and to interview and appoint my successor before that date to ensure a smooth transition of the office of mayor.

It has been the honor of my life to serve as Millcreek’s first mayor and I have very much enjoyed my time in this office...

..God bless you all and God bless Millcreek. Know that I will always support you."
Listen to "Fun with Tom Diegel" through the link i Listen to "Fun with Tom Diegel" through the link in our bio!

Today we’re going walking with @tomdiegel2 in the Wasatch. Tom has been involved with the CWC for some time now, and has held the Stakeholders Council Co-Chair role for the last two years. He’s focused a lot of his efforts on Mill Creek Canyon, and has a special affinity for it, so that’s where we went.

Tom is heading to Europe for the winter so I wanted to give him a chance to reflect on his time with the CWC before crossing the Atlantic.

We discuss timely topics like the construction in upper Mill Creek Canyon and the Update to the shuttle feasibility study. Tom’s been working on the shuttle project in particular for many years, so he is able to provide a detailed lowdown on its history. We also discuss the possible rescission of the 2001 Roadless Rule and what that could mean for the Wasatch.

Finally, I ask him my favorite question, the question I ask all interviewees. What does the Wasatch mean to you—in unquantifiable terms? I ask this question because I have a gut feeling that there’s something you can’t put your finger on that underpins all the work we do at the CWC. I have a feeling the real meaning of the mountains can’t be measured in the distance from your front door to a trailhead or in tax revenue dollars. And it’s possible that that special something will be described differently by different people. Tom, in his unique and surprising way, identifies fun, or the ability to have fun so easily as the “special something” that makes the Wasatch the place he wants to call home.
