What is the Mountain Accord Charter? The Central W What is the Mountain Accord Charter? The Central Wasatch Commission (CWC) hears this question frequently, and you might be asking it yourself. The Mountain Accord Charter established the CWC, an interlocal government entity dedicated to carrying out projects initiated during the Mountain Accord process, including federal legislation, the Central Wasatch National Conservation and Recreation Area Act (CWNCRA), the Environmental Dashboard, and canyon transportation improvements. Without this document, the Central Wasatch Commission and its work in the Central Wasatch Mountains would not exist.

Have more questions about the Mountain Accord Charter? Read more at cwc.utah.gov/mountainaccord/ or comment below!

Wildlife Wednesday with the infamous moose!🫎 Th Wildlife Wednesday with the infamous moose!🫎 The moose, Alces alces, is one of the most popular mammals that live in the Central Wasatch Mountains. This large ungulate is found throughout most of Alaska, Canada, and in parts of the northeastern, midwestern, and western United States. In Utah, moose can be found in the northern and northeastern parts of the state. These mammals exist primarily in wooded, mountainous areas near lakes or wetlands. Their diet consists of aquatic vegetation and new woody growth during the spring and summer, and bark and twigs in the winter.

On Saturday, May 17th, CWC joined @cottonwoodcanyo On Saturday, May 17th, CWC joined @cottonwoodcanyonsfoundation in weed removal at the Granite Flume trail in Big Cottonwood Canyon. We pulled quite a lot of Houndstongue, and a TON of Myrtle Spurge. Native to Eurasia, Myrtle Spurge is an escaped ornamental plant that spreads aggressively through open spaces and is prohibited in Utah. The proliferation of Spurge on this trail is an overwhelming sight, but CCF says they’re seeing some success with a combination of continued physical removal and chemical treatment. As Spurge pushes other species out, the ecosystem is strained, and connections between interdependent parts are fractured. But if we all keep at it, native species can become reestablished!
