A Message from the CWC

The members and staff of the Central Wasatch Commission are deeply disturbed by the deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, Bernardo Palacios, and Tony McDade, and by the racial violence endured by black, indigenous, and Latinx communities, and people of color before and since.
The CWC stands in solidarity and supports those demanding change within systems that perpetuate racism.
Our mission includes providing fair, equitable access to recreational opportunities and outdoor spaces in the Central Wasatch Mountains. We also work to protect the watershed that originates in the Central Wasatch Mountains for the over 500,000 Salt Lake County residents who depend upon it for reliable, clean, and affordable drinking water.
Historically and today, both outdoor spaces and clean water have too often been inaccessible for people of color due to environmental injustice, safety issues, and transportation barriers.
As an organization committed to ensuring fair recreational access and protecting the watershed for all those who rely upon it, we are committed to improving the outdoor experience in the Central Wasatch Mountains for black, indigenous, and Latinx communities, and people of color. The CWC will endeavor to communicate more frequently about equitable access in the Central Wasatch Mountains, and engage with the people and communities already doing that work.
