Application Period Opens for 2026 Short-Term Project Grants Program

The Central Wasatch Commission (CWC) is now accepting applications for its Short-Term Project Grant Program, beginning Tuesday, January 13, 2026. This Call for Ideas invites individuals and organizations to propose impactful, shovel-ready projects that support the long-term health and vitality of the Central Wasatch Mountains.

Eligible project ideas must align with one or more of the CWC’s four major focus areas: transportation, economic vitality, environmental sustainability, and recreational stewardship. The application period will remain open through February 10, 2026, at 5 p.m.

The Short-Term Project Grant Program is designed to support projects that are ready to move forward immediately upon receiving funding. “Shovel-ready” projects are those that have completed all necessary planning, coordination, and permitting at the time of application and can be implemented within 12 months.

Projects may request up to $20,000 in funding, with preference given to proposals that include matching funds or support from community partners. Eligible applicants include 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations, community groups, and individual Utah residents. While government entities and for-profit organizations are not eligible to apply directly, government partners may collaborate on projects led by an eligible applicant.

Additional eligibility requirements include coordination with landowners or land managers, approval from appropriate water authorities or road managers when applicable, and compliance with permitting requirements. Projects proposed on Forest Service land must not require new NEPA analysis, or must already have completed the NEPA process.
