The Central Wasatch Mountains are a significant source of drinking water for surrounding urban regions. In addition to common abiotic indicators of stream water quality, water that is treated for entering the urban drinking water supply is routinely tested for a suite of other organic and inorganic contaminants (heavy metals for example) in order to ensure public health and safety standards are met.
