#throwbackthursday -- Midway, Utah is famous for its crater hot springs known as "hot pots". This photo depicts the natural springs before the development and establishment of local resorts. Three people are seen walking around the crater and possibly taking a dip in its warm waters. This photo was taken sometime in the late 1800s to early 1900s by an unknown photographer.

Wildlife Wednesday! Known as a cougar, mountain li

Wildlife Wednesday! Known as a cougar, mountain lion, or Felis concolor, this carnivorous mammal is fairly common throughout Utah and primarily in mountainous regions, such as the Central Wasatch. They are active night and day but roam mostly during dawn and dusk. Cougars primarily eat other mammals such as mule deer, sheep, livestock, rodents, and more. The primary threat to the species includes remote habitat loss and land development. Cougars are important predators in the Central Wasatch Mountains and establish balance within ecosystems.

The Central Wasatch Commission will hold four public meetings the week of October 7th:

CWC Board Meeting -- Monday, October 7th from 3:30 - 5:30 p.m.
Environment System Committee Meeting -- Tuesday, October 8th from 3:00 - 4:30 p.m.
Economy System Committee Meeting -- Thursday, October 10th from 3:30 - 4:30 p.m.
Transportation System Committee Meeting -- Friday, October 11th from 3:00 - 4:30 p.m.

All meetings will be held in person and online via Zoom. Links in bio to watch virtually!

#throwbackthursday -- This vintage photo shows a dirt road leading up Mill Creek Canyon. Before the modern paved road, visitors traveled up this winding trail to explore the region. This picture was taken around 1905 by an unknown photographer.

Transportation through this canyon has changed drastically in the past several decades. More people can recreate and enjoy the beauty of Mill Creek, but this has resulted in more traffic congestion. The Central Wasatch Commission's (CWC) foundational document, the Mountain Accord, pushed for a Mill Creek Shuttle that would help alleviate parking and traffic issues. The CWC has continuously worked towards this solution and other transportation efforts.
