New episode alert! The CWNCRA series continues wit New episode alert! The CWNCRA series continues with a new episode reviewing iterations of the bill and the changes made over time. The CWC’s Executive Director, Lindsey Nielsen, and Director of Operations, Sam Kilpack, help review each version of the CWNCRA. As a reminder, the Central Wasatch National Conservation and Recreation Area Act, also known as the CWNCRA, is a federal, consensus-based bill drafted by the Central Wasatch Commission aimed at protecting the sources of our drinking water, preserving recreational opportunities for the future, and ensuring enjoyment of the Central Wasatch Mountains in the face of pressures from a growing population. This episode and the CWNCRA series aim to inform people about the bill as the Central Wasatch Commission works towards its establishment.

The Short-Term Projects Grant Program will be open The Short-Term Projects Grant Program will be opening its 2025 Call for Ideas in January! In previous years, this program has opened in March and allowed one month for applications to be submitted with a couple weeks to review. The new timeline will include a submission period from Monday, January 6th to Sunday, February 9th, but allocate more time to approve projects by May. Short-Term Projects will not require a NEPA and must be completed within one calendar year. Ideas also need to address one or more of the CWC's areas of focus: canyon transportation/transit, environmental protection, recreational stewardship, or economic sustainability.

An example of a repeatedly funded Short-Term Project from 2024 is @utahopenlands’ Transit to Trails Shuttle program, which provides a direct public transit option from the Park City Old Town area to the following trailheads along SR-224 and Guardsman Pass Road: Mid-Mountain Trailhead, Bonanza Flat Trailhead, and Bloods Lake Trailhead. In 2024, this program expanded to shuttle recreationists from the Wasatch Front, picking up in Sandy City and Cottonwood Heights to shuttle to popular trailheads in the Wasatch Back, further reducing traffic in Parley’s Canyon and Guardsman Pass Road.
