Happy Earth Day! 🌎🌱

Today is a celebration of the planet and all its beauty! The Central Wasatch is just one piece of the larger puzzle and an example of how much we rely on its wellbeing. Big and Little Cottonwood Canyons are the watershed source for millions of people in the Salt Lake Valley. Both the Wasatch front and back provide refuge, recreation opportunity, and connection between people and nature. It's important to celebrate the earth and the Central Wasatch, not just today, but everyday!

How YOU can help protect the Central Wasatch:
🚵‍♂️ Leave no trace! While recreating in the mountains, make sure to leave the area better than how you found it. Try not to stray off trails, and pick up any trash you find!
🏔️ Stay informed! Read about canyon changes, legislation, and wildlife through local news outlets. Also, sign up for the CWC's newsletter to keep up to date on meetings and initiatives.
🤝 Volunteer! There are many volunteer opportunities across the Central Wasatch, and THIS Saturday, April 27th, @cottonwoodcanyonsfoundation is hosting an Earth Day volunteer event and partnering with the Central Wasatch Commission.

#throwbackthursday -- Off the trail at Snowbird Resort, two hikers wander into a wildflower field. Snow lingers in the alpine meadow and they admire the beautiful yellow spreading across the hill. Other parts of Little Cottonwood Canyon have beautiful flowers pop up as spring melts into summer, and many people hike up to see them. This photo was taken in 1975 by an unknown individual.

As spring unravels and winter comes to a close, we look back at Utah's air quality and inversion. The view of Salt Lake City can be clouded by a thick layer of "smog" when inversion, a natural phenomenon, traps particulate matter in the air. The poor air can cause respiratory issues for some and concerns about the health of their families. Winter inversion is ending for the season, but soon we'll watch for wildfire pollution this summer.

The Central Wasatch Commission will hold two publi

The Central Wasatch Commission will hold two public meetings on April 15th. The Short-Term Projects Committee Meeting will be from 10:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. at Cottonwood Heights City Hall. The Executive/Budget/Audit Committee Meeting will be from 3:30 - 5:00 p.m. at the CWC's office.
